Nudie Jeans Repair Shop Bandung I Store Design

The Challenge

Nudie Jeans, the Swedish denim brand renowned for its commitment to sustainability, newest repair store in the heart of Bandung, Indonesia was to reflect the brand ethos with a local flavour.

Our Approach

The store design was inspired by the brand's core belief: “Clothes become more beautiful the more you wear them. The more you repair them.” This retail space reflects Nudie Jeans’ dedication to create tomorrow’s vintage, with a design that embraces the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in transience and imperfection. The store’s design draws heavily on sustainable principles, emphasising warm, natural textures, earthy tones, and locally sourced materials. In line with Nudie Jeans’ mission to reduce waste and promote conscious consumption, the repair station is constructed from recycled bricks made from local rejected plastic waste. This innovative material is incorporated throughout the space, used on the display tables, POS desk, and even on the floors for the rear fitting rooms and experiential area.

The store also features a beautiful selection of locally sourced timbers, which line the ceiling, full-height denim walls, joinery, and partition walls. The fitting room curtains are handmade by women weavers from Threads of Life, a partnership with The Bebali Foundation that empowers women in remote villages. Through this collaboration, these skilled artisans transform their traditional textiles into valuable income while promoting environmental sustainability and cultural integrity.

In addition to the sustainable materials, the store also showcases furniture made from upcycled coffee waste. Bell Society’s “Pipo” coffee table, crafted from 2.3kg of coffee husk and grounds, and the “Trace” stool, made from over 20kg of coffee skin waste per chair, are prime examples of Nudie Jeans’ dedication to reducing waste through creative, functional design.

Every aspect of the store reflects Nudie Jeans’ philosophy of a lifetime of repairs and the value of imperfection, utilizing low VOC lime wash paints and local materials that help preserve the environment. The store in Bandung stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to sustainable fashion and a future where beauty is found in the worn and repaired.
